Helen Josephine Cummins, 89, of Newton, Illinois passed away at 1:05 a.m., Wednesday, August 6, 2008 at St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham, IL.


Helen Josephine Cummins, 89, of Newton, Illinois passed away at 1:05 a.m., Wednesday, August 6, 2008 at St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham, IL.
Funeral services were held Friday, August 8, 2008 at the Blake-Buchanan Funeral Home in Newton, IL with Ron Mulvey officiating. Burial was in the Westlawn Cemetery in Newton.
Helen was born September 4, 1918 in Newton, IL the daughter of Emit and Lula (Henry) Ervin. She married Orvel E. Cummins March 4, 1936 in Robinson, IL; he preceded her in death November 6, 1994. Helen was a retired seamstress from E.R. Moore in Newton. She also fashioned numerous wedding parties and had a seamtress business in her home for many years. Helen graduated from Newton Community High School and was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church. She lived most of her life on the family centennial farm north of Newton. She also served many years as a 4-H leader in Jasper County.
Helen is survived by three children, Richard (Linda) Cummins of Thomasboro, Joan (Leon) Tietyen of Stratford, WI and Linda Cummins of Effingham; five grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; one step, great-grandchild and two step, great, great-grandchildren.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Sherri Kay and a brother Bill Ervin.
