The GFWC/Newton Junior Woman's Club will be hosting Breakfast with Santa on Saturday, December 10, 2011 at the St. Thomas Parish Center in Newton from 7:30-10 am. The cost is $3.00 per person (children and adults) with all proceeds going to the Children's Research Foundation. Included in the cost will be breakfast (fruit, doughnut holes, milk and juice) for both children and adults, the opportunity for children to visit with Santa and have a photo taken and visit with Holly Jolly Characters. The Newton Masonic Lodge will offer FREE child identification.
Red Ribbon Week theme for Thursday was "Be a HERO Don't Let Drugs Steer You Away From Your Future Goals". Three Super Heroes were Lesley Woods, Crayton Chesnut and Wyatt Emmerich.
Students from Mrs. Mammoser's, Mrs. Hart's and some students from Mrs. Short's classes were exercising in the Elementary Gym and took time to pose for a "Celebrate Red Ribbon Week" photo.
Newton Rest Haven's Halloween Fest is October 30th from 1-4 p.m. Cost is $5.00 per child for unlimited bounce house, games and prizes. There will be a costume contest from 2:30-3:00 p.m.
Everyone is welcome to come out for porkburgers and hot dogs ($2.50 & $1.50). Face painting and cotton candy, too! All proceeds will benefit residents' outings and activities.

The Sainte Marie 175th Anniversary Celebration (Quartoseptcentennial) will be held next year on June 29, 30 and July 1, 2012.
The 2011 Jasper County Fall Festival is a fun-filled event for families with Kids Corner Crafts, music, dancing, bands/band competition, NAC Photo Exhibit, arts & crafts booths, food booths including a pancake/sausage breakfast.
The Cross Foundation and The Cross at the Crossroads will host a free event on Sunday, September 11, in honor of its 10th anniversary. The event is scheduled from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on the grounds at the Cross, and the public is invited.
Don't forget, Friday, September 16 and Saturday, September 17 is Fall Festival weekend in Jasper County.
One of the most popular annual events in Jasper County is the St. Mary's Pre-Labor Day Picnic in Sainte Marie.
The picnic has a long history. This year's picnic is believed to be the 174th annual celebration. The picnic this year will be held on Sunday, September 4th, 2011 with activities beginning at 11:00 a.m.
Current and former union members and their families in the area covered by the Mideastern Illinois Labor Council are invited to attend the 34th annual Labor Picnic from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday, August 27, at Fox Ridge State Park, seven miles south of Charleston on Illinois Route 130.
