There's no denying that hearts and valentines go hand in hand.
Why not put those hands to good use and handcraft a heart-y greeting for your valentine this year? You can buy flowers or chocolates, sure, but nothing has the impact of something made by your own two hands.
Think outside the box (of chocolates) with a valentine greeting that is disguised as a banner. Simply cut out the letters and hearts from paper that is folded at the top, which makes it easy to drape them over a silk cord. Adhesive will hold the folded letters together and also prevent them from sliding into each other when the cord is stretched out/taut.
Add dimension to the greeting by cutting it from patterned paper. However, if you don't have any, it's easy enough to make your own with nothing more than a white pen, a rubber stamp and watermark inkpad. Even the eraser end of a primary pencil does double duty as a stamp for a polka-dot pattern that is simple but effective.
The letters in a banner can be stacked to make it easy to drop them into an envelope in order to send them to your sweetie. Imagine the surprise when sliding out a jumble of letters, only to discover a banner that is dying to be displayed along the fireplace mantle or on any wall in the house.
Hanging your greeting along a cord or string turns it from an ordinary card into a delightful room decoration that is likely to tug at the heartstrings of your valentine and be remembered long after the flowers and chocolates have disappeared.
