The following preliminary information has been released by Illinois State Police District 12. A personal injury crash occurred on IL 130 at County Road 600N (Ste. Marie Spur) in Jasper County on December 26, at 10:50 a.m.
Involved in the accident were three vehicles: Unit #1 a black, 2005 Dodge Ram Pickup, Unit #2 a gray, 2013 Chevrolet Impala, and Unit #3 a black, 2012 Ford Focus.
The preliminary investigation indicates that Unit #3, driver Philip S. Pankey, 67, Lowell, IN was stopped on IL 130, to make a left turn onto County Road 600N. Unit #2, Juvenile, 16, of Newton, was stopped behind Unit #3 waiting to go straight on IL 130 after Unit #3 made the left turn. Unit #1, Juvenile, 16, of Sumner, IL was southbound on IL 130 approaching Units #2 and #3. Unit #1 failed to yield for the stopped traffic and struck Unit #2 in the rear of the vehicle causing it to then run into the back of Unit #3. Unit #1 pushed Unit #2 into the ditch on the west side of the roadway. Units #1 and #2 came to rest in the ditch on the west side of the roadway. Unit #3 pulled the vehicle off the side of the roadway.
Unit #2 was transported to St. Anthony Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
Unit #1 driver was charged with Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid Accident, Graduated Drivers License One Passenger Limit.
Unit #1 had three Juvenile passengers; one 14 and two 16 year olds, all of Newton.
