The Newton Community High School Varsity team went 2-0-1 to win the Red and Gold Tournament at Charleston in one game on Thursday, August 24th and two games on Saturday, August 26. The Eagles had several named to the All Tournament Team: Greg Shinn, Nacho Moragues, Jack Chapman Cole Farley and Collin Harris.

On Thursday, the Eagles defeated Olney with a final score of 4-1 in the Eagles first of three pool play games in the red pool. Goals were scored by Nacho Moragues, Jack Chapman, Cole Farley and Giuseppe Cucinella. Ben Carr had three assists and Cole Farley had one.

In game two of the Eagles road to the championship win, they dominated the field against Effingham High School. During the game, the Eagles were able to score five goals and shut out the Flaming Hearts. Nacho scored two goals, Ross Farley scored one and Giuseppe scored one. Ben Carr had two assists and Jack Chapman had two assists. Effingham scored one on their own goal bringing the Eagles final score to five.

The final game of the day for the Eagles ended in a tie of 2-2 against Monticello. Ben Carr had one of the two goals and the other was on a penalty kick. Coach Creadore spoke about the games on Saturday and the win of the tournament with “We were happy with the way we played both games. These were two very tough teams. It’s been a long time coming, but everything is starting to fall into place for us and our system.”
