Gilbert Paul Frohning, 74, of Newton, Illinois, passed away at 10:50 a.m., Monday, January 1, 2018, at Flora Rehabilitation and Health Care in Flora, Illinois.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m.,Saturday, January 6, 2018, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Wendelin, Illinois, with Fr. Mark Stec celebrating mass. Burial will be in the Holy Cross Cemetery in Wendelin, Illinois. Visitation will be held 5:00-7:00 p.m., Friday, January 5, 2018, at the church and ½ hour before the mass. Gilbert was born on March 21, 1943, in Jasper County, the son of William and Mary (Diemel) Frohning. Gilbert was a farmer and a member of the Holy Cross Catholic Church in Wendelin, Illinois. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards and working on antique tractors.

Gilbert is survived by sons, Doug (Paula) Frohning of Newton, Wes Frohning of Lousiville, and Shawyn Frohning of Clay City; grandchildren, Rachel Frohning, Noah Frohning, Dylan Frohning, Hannah Frohning, Lane Frohning and Shae Frohning (Fiancé-Bobby Duncan); great-granddaughter, Kaymden Duncan; brothers, Victor (Lou) Frohning of Mt. Erie, Dan Frohning of Ingraham, and J.V. (Marilyn) Frohning of Ingraham; sister, Dorothy (Jim) Croy of Sailor Springs.

Gilbert was preceded in death by his parents, son Joshua Frohning, brothers Robert and Leo Frohning and a sister Ruth Butler.
