February 13, 1936 – February 19, 2018

Albert (Bert) Ochs, 82, of Jacksonville, Florida, formerly of Newton, IL passed away Tuesday, February 13, 2018 in Jacksonville, Florida.

Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 19, 2018 at Prince of Peace Catholic Church with Father Michael J. Larkin officiating. Burial followed at Greenlawn Cemetery with military honors. Arrangements are under the care of the George H. Hewell and Son Funeral Home, South Jacksonville, FL.

Bert enlisted in the Navy in 1954 receiving his training in sonar and served in First Alert Stations at various locations on the east coast of the United States and in Puerto Rico. He also served as a sonar operator on two different Destroyers, the USS Bigelow and the USS Dortch that patrolled the Atlantic Ocean. Bert retired from the Navy in 1974 with the rank of Senior Chief. Following retirement Bert started his own business of contracting with telephone companies to install phone equipment in motels, hotels, business offices, etc. Bert enjoyed his dogs and was an avid football fan, especially for the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Albert is survived by his wife of 44 years Marie Ochs of Jacksonville, FL; a son Coco; three daughters, Brenda and Elizabeth Ochs, and Kathleen Beale, all of Jacksonville, FL; granddaughter, Ashley Galbraith and great-grandson, Dalton, both of Jacksonville, FL; brother, Samuel Ochs of Fairfield; sister, Edna Evelyn (Ochs) Van Den Bos of Pekin; nephews, Bruce and David Ochs of Ste. Marie, Steven Ochs of Magnolia, AR, Kent Ochs of Fairfield, Bill Buchanan of Belle Vista, AR and Kevin Hering of Pekin; nieces, Janice Ochs of Effingham, Karleen (Ochs) Prosser of Noble, Rebecca (Ochs) Wisher of Clinton, Kristi (Ochs) Abba of Carterville, and Linda and Carla Hering of Pekin.

Bert was preceded in death by his parents, brothers William, Darrel, Delbert and John Ochs; sisters Hazel (Ochs) Buchanan and Emilyann (Ochs) Dwyer and a nephew, George Ochs.
