Olney Tiger Tennis has solid
weekend on the courts

 Olney had an action

packed weekend full of

tennis with a triangular

match on Friday and a

doubles tourney on Saturday.

On Friday, the Tigers

welcomed in Centralia and

Effignahm St. Anthony to

Olney for the three team

event.

The event was scheduled

for two singles matches

and three doubles matches.

St. Anthony did not

have enough for a third

doubles match, only two

was played against the

Bulldogs.

“It was cold, like usual,

but we still came out on

top in both matches,” Olney

head coach Drew

Muston said of the

matchups. “Centralia is

usually pretty tough and

St. Anthony is in our Sectional.

This was two good

wins for us.”

Olney was playing without

number one singles

player, Felix Pajonk, due to

sickness.

“Other kids had to step

up in the varsity spots,”

Muston said of having to

change the lineup due to

the sickness. “All of them

played well. We did not

skip a beat.”

Austin Atwood bumped

up to the number one singles

and picked up a

staright sets win over

Blake Nehrt from Centralia

(6-0, 6-0) and defeated

Noah Tegler from

St. Anthony (6-3, 6-1) to

claim a pair of singles wins

on the day.

Adam Brewer played the

number two singles spot

against Centralia’s Arda

Cetinkaya. Brewer picked

up the win over the Orphans

number two (6-4, 6-

2) to earn a singles win for

Olney.

Jaedyn Moyes played

the singles match against

St. Anthony. The Tigers

number two picked up a

straigh sets win (6-1, 6-3)

to claim a singles win over

the Bulldogs.

Hendrickson and Jack

Bettis teamed up at the

number one spot.

The Tigers duo downed

their opponents from Centralia

(6-1, 6-0) and defeated

the Bulldogs number

one (6-1, 6-1) to propel

them into a doubles tourney

the next day.

Jacob Taylor and Cade

McDowell represented the

Tigers at the number two

spot. Olney picked up

straigth set wins in a convincing

fashion.

The Tigers team defeated

the Centralia squad (6-

0, 6-0) and overmatched

the St. Anthony pair (6-4,

6-0) to claim the two victories.

Jaedyn Moyes paired up

with Coen McDowell to

play in the lone number

three doubles match on

the day. The Tigers picked

up the win (6-1, 6-0) to

complete the sweep on the

day.Moving into Saturday,

off the nine matches won

the day before, Olney had

to switch gears and focus

just on doubles.

Olney faced off with Flora

and Fairfield in the

event. Each team could

play four doubles teams in

the event.

“All the kids played well

throughout the day,” Olney’s

Drew Muston said.

“We have played Fairfield

before, but it was the first

time against Flora.”

Tanner Hendrickson

and Jack Bettis was the

Tigers number one team.

The duo downed the

Mules Derek Estes and Jacob

Britt (6-4, 6-7 (4-7), 6-

3) in a three set battle.

Olney then picked up

the number one doubles

win with a win over Mason

Beckham and Carter

Collins from Flora (7-5, 6-

2).Hendrickson and Bettis

were named the number

one doubles champions.

Jacbo Taylor and Cade

McDowell were the Tigers

pair at the number two

doubles.

They defeated Cody

Gawthrop and Nick Kunce

from Fairfield (66-3, 6-0)

before downing Nick Freeman

and Mathew Suntrip

(6-3, 6-2) from Flora.

With the two wins, Taylor

and McDowell were

named the champions at

the number two doubles

slot.

Felix Pajonk, back from

an illness, paired up with

Austin Atwood. The top

two singles players formed

the number three doubles

pairing at the tournament.

Pajonk and Atwood

were named the number

three champions by downing

Drew Barbee and Lucas

Halburt (6-0, 6-0)

from Fairfield and Dakota

Greenwood and Nate

Freeman (6-2, 6-2) from

Flora.

Seth Ingram teamed up

with Jaedyn Moyes at the

number four doubles position.

Fairfield did not have a

team in this slot, meaning

a winner-take-all match

between the Tigers and

Wolves would decide the

number four champion.

Ingram and Moyes

would take the title with a

win over Collin Mosely

and Alex Larch (6-2, 6-0).

Olney played nine

matches Friday and seven

matches on Saturday, winning

all of them to complete

a stellar weekend on

the tennis courts.
