Two suspects are sought in connection with an incident that occurred at the Effingham Burger King, 1308 N. Keller Drive, late on Thursday night. At approximately 10:21 P.M., Bureau of Communications received a 911 call from a Burger King employee who advised that Burger King had just been robbed by two suspects, one of whom displayed a handgun.
Bureau of Patrol Officers arrived on scene within minutes and immediately began to canvass the area for the pair, with negative results. The suspects are both described as black males between 5’ 5” and 5’ 9”, each with a slender or skinny build. Both were wearing black, zip-up hooded sweatshirts and black shoes. The first suspect was wearing blue and white acid-washed jeans; the second was wearing black pants. After stealing an undetermined amount of currency, the suspects were observed on video-surveillance leaving the restaurant at approximately 10:18 P.M. in a dark colored SUV, possibly a Dodge Durango, in an unknown direction of travel. No one was injured during this incident, and there were no reports of any weapons being fired.
Detectives from the Bureau of Criminal Investigations are furthering the investigation. A similar incident occurred in Greenville, Illinois earlier in the evening, and authorities are working together to determine if the incidents are related.
