Booth Library of Eastern Illinois University is providing an opportunity for the Newton Public Library to have a traveling exhibit called “Designs of Duty”. The traveling exhibit will be here until August 31.

“Designs of Duty” features seven veterans from East Central Illinois and their service-related tattoos. Adam Griffy, of Olney, formerly of Newton, Illinois, is one of the veterans showcased.

From a Press Release from the Booth Library, they state, the tattoos are a common symbol among the military, and this exhibit aims to explore the inspiration and meanings behind them, as well as the stories of the veterans themselves. Pride; Patriotism and Honor are common themes in the artwork chosen by the veterans featured in “Designs of Duty”.

“Design of Duty” consists of eight panels that measure 40 inches by 60 inches. Each panel is displayed on a wooden easel.
