89 year old Fairfield resident Carol Joan “Jojo” Galbreath Carter, passed away 12:15 a.m. Saturday, August 18, 2018 at Fairfield Memorial Hospital.

Services for Carol Joan Carter were held Tuesday, August 21 at 10:30 a.m. at Nale’s Funeral Home in Fairfield with burial at Maple Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be given made to the Wabash Christian Village in Carmi and will be accepted at Nale’s Funeral Home. Nale’s Funeral Home of Fairfield is in charge of arrangements. Joan was born September 18, 1928 in Arthur, Illinois to Roy and Inez (Lawrence) Galbreath. She married E.N. “Newt” Carter on June 1, 1947 at Newton, IL. Joan worked along side her husband Newt, at Carter’s Cleaners for over 40 years. She was a member of the Fairfield First Christian Church and the Rebekah Lodge. Joan taught Sunday School, lead the bell choir and directed the Life Singers Teen Choir.

Joan is survived by two sons, Royce (Becky) Carter and Gary (Terri) Carter, both of Fairfield; Four grandsons, Nick Carter of Fairfield, David (Julia) Carter of Bloomington, Nate (Callie) Carter of Fairfield, and Eric (Merrin) Carter of Plainfield, IN; nine great-grandchildren, RE, Jude, Blair, Neve, David, Hayden, Brooke, Kennedy and Knox and several nieces & nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, an infant son, George Delno and a sister Jane Smith.
