Louis R. Leister, 97, of Olney, Illinois, passed away on Sunday, September 16, 2018 at Aperion Care in Olney, IL.
A graveside service will be held at 9:00 AM on Tuesday, September 25, 2018 at the St. Joseph Cemetery in Olney. Cremation Rites were accorded. Full Military Rites will be performed at the graveside. Memorials can be made to St. Joseph Catholic School. Kistler-Patterson Funeral Homoe is in charge of arrangements.
Louis was born on June 13, 1921 in Louisville, KY, the son of Charles F. and Pearl (Black) Leister. He later married Elizabeth (Callis) and she preceded him in death on October 7, 2011. Louis was a proud WWII US Navy Veteran and served in the Asiatic-Pacific. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion and was a member for over 60 years. Louis enjoyed coaching baseball and refereeing football and basketball. He also took pleasure in fishing and bingo. For years he had a fishing show on the radio and the tag line was "Let's go fishing". Louis was an avid Cubs fan. Louis was also a longtime member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Louis is survived by his son, Bill Leister and wife Charlotte of Noble; daughter, Bonnie French of Newton; son, Steven Leister of Flora; grandchildren, Brian Leister, Brad Leister, Christine (Kent) Klier, Lindsay (Julie) French, and Laura (Dan) Songer; 9 great-grandchildren; 14 great, great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brothers, Robert and Elmer Leister.
