SIUC awards academic scholarship

Rachel Frichtl of Newton, is the recipient of an academic scholarship to attend Southern Illinois University Carbondale for the 2009 fall semester.  Frichtl is receiving the Dean’s Scholarship Award, which is valued at $6,000.  Scholarships are based on academic merit and potential for superior achievements in college.

Frichtl, who will be a 2009 graduate of Newton Community High School, is the daughter of Doug and Mary Frichtl.  Her awards and honors include Illinois State Scholar and is a member of the National Honors Society.  Frichtl also participates in a variety of extracurricular activities including, FBLA, FCA, Spanish Club, BETA Club, 4-H, tennis, band, and chorus.

SUIC is a student-centered research university offering more than 109 academic degrees in a broad array of programs, ranging from two-year curriculums through the doctorate.  SIUC offers a large number of scholarship opportunities.  Undergraduates annually receive more than $3.5 million in institutional scholarships and tuition waivers students based on a wide range of criteria.
