With new uniforms, new percussion and a new trailer, the Newton Marching Eagles are preparing for the fall marching season in style. The Eagles take to the field for their first competition on Saturday, September 13th at Belleville, Illinois followed by a second competition later that day in O’Fallon, Illinois. The band has competed before at O’Fallon but this will be their first year attending Bellville’s competition.
They will be competing in a total of six competitions this fall. On October 4th, they head to Robinson; October 11th is Indiana State University’s competition. On the 18th of October, the Eagles will host their own band classic in the morning and then head to Effingham for their competition that afternoon. The season ends with a trip to the University of Illinois on October 25th.
This year’s show is based on the music of Aaron Copland, known as America’s composer. Copland lived from 1900 to 1990; he died the same year many of the seniors were born. The band has not only been playing Copland’s music, they have been studying his life and his career.
