Jasper County Community Unit #1 will conduct its annual Preschool Screening for 3 to 5 year old children from February 23-February 26. The screenings are offered at no cost to parents and help identify children who may need assistance before starting school. Screenings will be held at the First Baptist Church, 400 W. Washington St. in Newton.
Times for the screenings are: Monday, February 23 and Tuesday, February 24 from 12:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 25, from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. & Thursday, February 26 from 12:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. The screening takes about an hour.
We hope all parents will bring their children to the screening. Results are used to identify candidates for the Pre-K program at the high school, for other district preschool programs and services, and for Head Start.
Along with these screenings, the Birth-To-Three program will be offering a no cost Developmental Screening for children from 6 months to 3 years of age. These screenings will be offered from 12:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Monday, February 23 and Tuesday, February 24, and Wednesday, February 25, 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. & Thursday, February 26 from 12:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. They usually take about 30 minutes.
Representatives from Head Start will be available to accept applications for their program on Monday, February 23, and Tuesday, February 24 from 12:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 25 from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. & Thursday, February 26 from 12:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
