According to a Press Release from the Newton City Police, on November 10, 2008 at approximately 11:53 p.m., Newton City Police attempted to stop a vehicle for not having any license plates.  The driver, James A. Traxler, age 33 of Effingham, IL, and front seat passenger, Sean A. Curtiss, age 28 of Newton, fled from the vehicle.

The Jasper County State’s Attorney’s Office announced the arrest on November 14, 2008, of a rural Jasper County man on the charge of Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse.

According to an Illinois State Police report, a train heading eastbound in Newton struck the front, passenger side door of a vehicle driven by Gary Lee Davis, 29, of Newton at the intersection of South Jackson and Decatur at 11:37 a.m. on November 18th.
