10th anniversary of The Cross event is scheduled for Sunday, September 11, 5-7 p.m., located at 1904 Pike Avenue, just off the Raney Street overpass in Effingham’s Industrial Park.

The Cross Foundation and The Cross at the Crossroads will host a free event on Sunday, September 11, in honor of its 10th anniversary. The event is scheduled from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on the grounds at the Cross, and the public is invited.

Free sandwich meals from Martin’s IGA, along with free frozen custard from Culver’s, will be served from 5:00-7:00pm. Live music is scheduled from 5:00-6:00pm, featuring local Christian artist Joyce Hartrich. An ecumenical prayer service will be held from 6:00-6:15pm, and will be led by Pastor Roger Marshall. Following the prayer service, a children’s balloon release will take place. At 6:30pm, attendees will gather together in an attempt to form the largest human cross in the USA.

The closing ceremony, scheduled from 6:45-7:00pm, will feature illuminated Chinese lanterns sent into the sky in memory / honor of loved ones. A limited quantity of lanterns are available, and can be reserved by phoning 217.342.4100. A $20 tax-deductible donation to The Cross Foundation is required to reserve your lantern. Please provide your name and the name of the person for whom you’re honoring/remembering. All info will be read aloud as each lantern is illuminated.

Guests are asked to bring lawn chairs and/or blankets, and are encouraged to visit The Cross Foundation Welcome Tent from 5:00-7:00 p.m. to learn more about The Cross at the Crossroads, and to receive a free gift.
