Elvie E. Norris, 88, of Astoria passed away at 11:14 a.m. on Wednesday, April 11, 2018, at his home. He was born Sept. 15, 1929, in rural Macomb to parents Jesse and Mettie (Owens) Norris. He married Shirley Riebling on Aug. 9, 1953, in Adair. She survives.
He is also survived by son Ken (Stacy Tew-Lovasz) Norris of St. Louis, Mo., son Kevin (Tarra) Norris of Taylorville; grandchildren Steven (Contessa) Norris, Shelbi (Nate) Turner and Keegan Norris; five great-grandchildren, Cameron, Benjamin, Eayn, Fallon and Kamery. He is preceded in death by daughter Tina Norris; two brothers, Roger and Glen Norris; and three sisters, Maxine Kitch, Evelyn Phillips and Aleyne Roberts.
He was a farmer. He also worked at the Ken-Ray Foundry in Vermont, Ill., and Astoria Fiber Steel and Skiles Fertilizer, both in Astoria. He was custodian at Astoria schools for nine years.
Elvie was a member of the Grace Bible Church in Astoria and the South Fulton Antique Tractor Club. He was involved in Scouting for 15 years and served as Scoutmaster in Astoria for 10 of those. He enjoyed going fishing and gardening. He was a “tinkerer” and inventor in his spare time and loved spending time with his family.
Services are at 11 a.m. Monday, April 16, 2018, at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Pastor Ben Murray officiating. Visitation is 9-11 a.m. on Monday, April 16, 2018 at the funeral home. Interment is in Industry Cemetery in Industry. Memorials may be made to Grace Bible Church in Astoria.
