J. Bernard Street, 88, of Rural Newton, Illinois passed away at 8:30 a.m., Monday, March 1, 2010 at Lakeland Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Effingham, IL.

Funeral services celebrating Bernard's life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, March 8, 2010 at the Blake-Buchanan Funeral Home in Newton, IL with Mark Wilkinson officiating.  Burial will be in the Dieterich Village Cemetery.  Visitation will be held 6:00-7:00 p.m., Sunday, March 7, 2010 at the funeral home.

John Bernard, better know as Bernard, was born on May 2, 1921 in Dundas, IL the son of John Moses and Cleollan (Kermicle) Street.  He married Betty Forthman on October 31, 1948; she preceded him in death on September 6, 2002. Bernard was a lifelong farmer and was a member of the Scott Avenue Christian Church in Newton, IL.  He enjoyed fishing and mushroom hunting.

Bernard is survived by his two children, John (Jan) Street of Dundas and Linda (Dale) VanMatre of Dundas; one brother, Eugene (wife Marcella) Street of Wheeler; seven grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.

Bernard was preceded in death by his parents, wife and 2 brothers George and Herbert Street.
