Eugene Freeland, 82, formerly of Newton, Illinois passed away at 10:18 a.m., Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at Lakeland Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Effingham, IL.
Funeral services celebrating Eugene's life will be held at 6:00 p.m., Thursday, March 4, 2010 at the Blake-Buchanan Funeral Home in Newton, IL. Visitation will be held 1 hour before the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.
Eugene was born on December 26, 1927 in Yale, IL the son of Wrotten and Marie (Martin) Freeland. He married Thelma Fouty on June 29, 1957; she survives. He served his country in the United States Army from 1955 to 1957. Eugene was a school bus driver for over 35 years and worked construction. He was a member of the Newton Free Methodist Church.
Eugene is survived by his wife of 52 years, Thelma Freeland of Effingham; one daughter, Ruth Ann (Terry) Trueblood of Effingham; one son, David Eugene Freeland of Effingham; grandchildren, James Robert Trueblood and LeAnn Marie Trueblood; two sisters, Cassie Ballinger of Vandalia and Mary Deck of Ridge Farm.
Eugene was preceded in death by his parents and 3 brothers - Charles, George and Bud Freeland.
