John William "Bill" Mattingly, 78, of Ste. Marie, Illinois passed away at 2:29 p.m., Saturday, March 6, 2010 at Richland Memorial Hospital in Olney, IL.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 10, 2010 at the St. Mary's Cemetery in Ste. Marie, IL with Fr. Al Kemme officiating followed by military rites by the Ste. Marie Post #932 American Legion. Visitation will be held 6:00-8:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 9, 2010 at the Blake-Buchanan Funeral Home in Newton, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Ste. Marie Post #932 American Legion.
John William better know as "Bill" was born on September 15, 1931 in Jasper County, IL the son of John and Mildred (Schmidt) Mattingly. He married Bernadine Derler in August 1983. Bill was a retired plumber and electrician. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict serving from 1952 until 1954. He was a member of the Ste. Marie Post #932 American Legion and enjoyed writing poems.
Bill is survived by his wife, Bernadine Mattingly of Ste. Marie; son, Allen Ederer of Ste. Marie; grandsons, Brad (fiancée Becky Shultz) Ederer of Olney and Brian (wife Shawna) Ederer of West Liberty; great-grandchildren, Tera Ederer and Kyle Ederer; one brother, Francis Mattingly of Newton; and three sisters, Phylis Mattingly of Dieterich, Dorothy Bullen of Greenville, TN and Mildred Flottmann of Bloomington.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers and 5 sisters.
