Marjorie Elizabeth Gardner, 94, of Olney, Illinois passed away at 8:45 p.m., Monday, August 23, 2010 at Richland Memorial Hospital, Olney, Illinois.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 28, 2010 at Summers-Kistler Funeral Home in Olney. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery, Newton, IL. In loving memory of Marjorie, memorials may be made to St. Paul United Methodist Church, Olney or Hospice of Southeastern Illinois. Marjorie was born August 26, 1915 in Newton, Illinois, the daughter of George K. and Celestia (Lankford) Crackel. She married James Ivy Garnder June 5, 1935 in Newton; he preceded her in death in 1940. Marjorie worked as an operator for GTE for 40 years. She lived and worked in Robinson, IL before moving to Olney, IL when GTE consolidated its offices. She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church. Marjorie enjoyed gardening, quilting, and crocheting. She was greatly loved by her family and friends and will be remembered forever.

Marjorie is survived by her daughter-in-law, Barbara Gruhl of Kingman, AZ; two granddaughters, Valerie (David) Kennedy of Winter Haven, FL and Janet Gardner and husband Richard Friedel of San Francisco, CA; two great-grandsons and five great, great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Celestia in 1970, George in 1957 and son James Edward Gardner in 1977.
