Arthur Francis "Art" Schackmann, 63, of Newton, Illinois passed away at 9:20 p.m., Monday, August 30, 2010.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 3, 2010 at the Blake-Buchanan Funeral Home in Newton, IL with Pastor Roger Long officiating.  Burial will be in the Honey Cemetery in Bogota, IL with full military rites.  Visitation will be held from 4:00-8:00 p.m., Thursday, September 2, 2010 at the funeral home.  Memorials can be made to Calvary Baptist Church Youth Outreach program.

Arthur Francis better know as Art was born in Newton, IL on September 3, 1946, to Clarence F. and Clara Marie (Bergbower) Schackmann.  On June 22, 1974 Art was united in marriage to the former Rita Hille in Effingham, IL. Art was a 1963 graduate of the Newton Community High School.  After graduation Art served his country in the United States Army during Vietnam.  He worked for the Illinois Central Railroad for 10 years.  In 1972 Art became an Auctioneer and has conducted auctions in the area for over 38 years. Art was a member and trustee of the Calvary Baptist Church.  He was a firefighter for the Wade Fire and Rescue District for many years.  He was a member of the Illinois and National Auctioneers Association and was a member of the Certified Auctioneer Institute.

Art is survived by his wife of 36 years, Rita Schackmann of Newton; father, Clarence F. Schackmann of Quincy; children, Sarah (Josh) Willis of Wildwood, MO, Paul (Sarah) Schackmann of Ft. Lupton, CO and John Schackmann of Newton; grandchildren, Eszter and Zane Willis of Wildwood, MO; sisters, Phyllis (Ron) LaFeber of Indianapolis, IN, Shirley Schackmann of Los Angeles, CA, Elizabeth Schackmann of Robinson,  Helen (Reg) Galvin of Indianapolis, IN and Cathy (Mike) Dasenbrock of Newton; brothers, Mark Schackmann of Effingham and Norbert (Angie) Schackmann of Mattoon; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Art was preceded in death by his mother and a brother Denis Schackmann.
