The Newton High School girls varsity basketball game with Salem that was postponed last week, has been rescheduled for Saturday, January 28 at 4:30 at Newton. There will be no junior varsity game.
Coming off a tough loss at Salem 64-62, the NCHS Eagles of Doug Mammoser bounced back with two victories last week. On Tuesday, the Eagles visited Charleston and came away with a 68-67 overtime win thanks to Peyton Wyatt's shot in the final 6 seconds. Friday, the Eagles after being road warriors, returned to their own gym for the home opener against a struggling Mt. Zion Braves team.
Suffering from a three game losing streak, the NCHS Lady Eagles needed a victory in their final home appearance before the holiday as they hosted the Paris Lady Tigers on Monday evening.
In two home matches last week, the NCHS Lady Eagles divided matches with Robinson and Lawrenceville. On Tuesday, the Lady Eagles were edged 4-3 by Robinson. However, on Thursday they bounced back to post a 4-3 win over Lawrenceville.
The Olney Tigers fired a 158 last Tuesday at the Richland County Country Club to win easily over the Eagles who recorded a 202.
Dylan Taylor of Olney was medalist with a 2 over par 38. Peyton Wyatt led the Eagles with a 43. Philip Blank shot a 44. Brandon Bigard fired a 57. Evan Brooks had a 58. Lucas Ochs shot a 63 and Elijah Knepper a 67 over the back nine holes at Olney. The loss gave the Eagles a 2-2 record for the season.
