Olney would wrap up their 2018 regular season with one final home game before postseason play starts next week. The Charleston Lady Trojans would spoil the Lady Tigers ‘Senior Day’ with a dominant pitching peformance from Dee Cordell. The Lady Tigers were held to just one run on one hit during their final home game of the regular season. Charleston set an early tone with a one out solo home run by Reagan McGahey to give the visitors a lead. Olney starter Sophia Colclasure retired the next batter before a walk and a sinlge put two runners on. Both runners advanced on a passed ball that put two in scoring position. Kennedy Fellers lined a single to right and one run scored by the second was cut down at the plate as Cameron Patton got the ball in quickly to hold the damage to just the two runs. Dee Cordell would stikeout the first batter she faced before a one out walk put one of the few base runners on for Olney. Madisyn Wease would take the walk before being thrown out trying to steal second base. Charleston kept Olney at bay and tried to ramp the offense back up in the top of the second. Colclasure was very good in the second, forcing three ground outs to get a perfect inning in the circle. The Lady Trojans hurler settled down in the middle innings and set the Lady Tigers down in order with a line out and a pair of strikeouts. In the third, Charleston would quickly double their 2-0 lead. A pair of singles and a Lady Tiger error scored two runs quickly in the third for a 4-0 advantage. Following the tough to handle three batters to start the inning, Colclasure retired three in a row to hold the damage to two. Olney would get a base runner in the bottom half to lead off the inning. Megan Garner lifted a fly ball to left that was bobbled and dropped allowing Garner to reach safely. A fly out would put one away and the Lady Tigers would bunt into a double play to end the inning as a runner was caught rounding second. An error led the top of the fourth, Olney committed six errors on the day. Following an error the Lady Trojan batter was hit and two runners were on base. A fielder’s choice flip to second got the first out of the inning putting runners on the corners with one out. A sacrifice fly to center would score a run, putting Charleston ahead 5-0, getting the second out of the inning. A ground out got the Lady Tigers out of the inning and looking to try and chip away at the five run deficit. Madisyn Wease reached base with one out after being hit by a pitch. Aaliyah Wease would double with two outs, moving her sister to third, for the first and only hit of the day for the Lady Tigers. Aubrey Page would get the run home from third on an error at first base. Page would beat out a foot race to the bag after the first baseman booted the ball away. Madisyn Wease scored as Aaliyah Wease moved to third on the error. A pop out would end the Lady Tiger threat with just the one run scoring. Back up to bat, the Lady Trojans would add to the 5-1 lead. Three straight singles scored a pair of runs for Charleston who seized a 7-1 lead with nobody out. An error put two runners on before a sacrifice and a fly out set two down. The Lady Trojans had two in scoring position with two outs and a single by Olivia Hiletebeitel scored two more before Olney escaped the inning. The Lady Tigers went down quitely in their half of the fifth as a two out walk to Jalayna Reynolds was wiped away with a pick-off at first. Aubrey Page would enter in relief of Colclasure and force a pop out to the first batter she faced. A double and a single followed with a run scored. Page got the second out with a fly ball into center field, but Charleston was not finished. A doulbe put two in scoring position and a wild pitch scored a run. An error would allow two more runs to score with the Lady Trojans now holding a 13-1 advantage. Page would get a grounder to get out of the inning and the Olney offense had their work cut out for them. Dee Cordell set the Lady Tigers down 1-2-3 to close out the game and give Charleston the 13-1 victory. The Lady Trojans improved to 28-2 on the year with the win. Olney falls to 8-17 with the loss.
