St. MAry's loses in quarterfinals

St. Mary’s saw its softball season end at a place most other programs would love to be — in the quarterfinal round of the state tournament. The Saints dropped an 8-0 decision to Peoria (Limestone Walters) in the second Class A quarterfinal game at Champion Fields Friday afternoon.
SMS hurler Elena Krause gave up a run in the first inning and then shut down Walters until the sixth inning. She allowed three runs in the sixth and four in the seventh as the game got away from the Saints.
Although SMS was able to produce five base hits, the Saints could generate enough offense to score in support of Krause. The St. Mary’s ace allowed eight hits, two walks and struck out three.
Kate Leonard had two hits to lead the Saints’ (14-7) offense. Maddie Gourley, Carrington Gray and Paige Collins each singled.
