Prep volleyball from Tuesday
Defense was key as Prairie Central topped Central Catholic 25-23, 25-23 in Illini Prairie Conference volleyball Tuesday night.
Amber Graf led the Hawks with 9 kills and Merryn Krenz had 21 assists as Prairie Central provided enough firepower on offense to keep the Saints at bay. Addison Casner had 6 service points.
Natalie Graf had 11 digs and Danielle Vogel made 2 blocks to lead the PC defense.
Mallory Bergbauer had 8 kills for BCC.
Prairie Central won the sophomore match 25-21, 25-19. BCC won the freshman match 25-20, 25-13.
DWIGHT — Flanagan-Cornell came off Monday’s tough conference loss well enough to overpower Dwight 25-7, 25-13 in a nonconference tilt Tuesday.
Kayla Van Weelden led the Falcons’ net game with 7 kills and 2 blocks. Regan Reed delivered 5 kills while Rachel Harrison and McKenna Roth each had 3 kills. Molly Garretson had 2 kills. Madelyn Forney collected 7 assists and Alexis Howell had 4 assists.
Harrison, Garretson and Reed each had 2 digs and Roth made 1 block on defense.
Flanagan-Cornell outlasted Dwight 21-25, 25-17, 25-18 in the frosh-soph match.
EL PASO — Emma Peterson had a big hitting night against EL Paso-Gridley as the Knights topped the Titans 25-23, 18-25, 25-20. Peterson had 13 kills and Lexi Jochums collected 15 assists.
Madi Hock made 15 digs and Jacie Sullivan had 2 blocks.
EPG won the sophomore and freshman matches.
LEXINGTON — Gracy Michel and Raylee Sharrow directed Lexington’s offense in a 25-18, 25-19 Heart of Illinois Conference win over LeRoy at The Fort.
Michel had 10 assists and Sharrow added 9 as the Minutemen pelted the LERoy defense. Jayden Standish and Layken McGuire each had 6 kills. McGuire also had 9 service points.
Standish collected 8 digs and 1½ blocks on defense. Tia Hardt and Skyler Friedmansky each had 7 digs.
Lexington won the frosh-soph match 25-20, 25-23.
COLFAX — Kelly Jones had a solid net game in helping Ridgeview handle Heyworth 25-23, 25-20 in HOIC play Tuesday.
Jones had 6 kills and 3 blocks for the Mustangs. Mya Tinsley led the RHS net attack with 8 kills and Izzy Helmig collected 19 assists and 6 service points. River Rosales made 10 digs.
Illini Prairie Conference
St. Thomas More got the best of Olympia in taking a 25-23, 25-18 IPC victory.
Kalli Terrell had 9 kills and Kaitlin Dean added 6 kills for the Spartans in a losing effort.
Illinois Valley Central lost a 25-15, 25-21 match to Rock Falls in nonconference play. Hope Allen led the Grey Ghosts with 4 kills and Jaylee Cline had 5 assists.
St. Joseph-Ogden was a 25-9, 25-22 winner over Rantoul.
