Fieldcrest takes HOIC crossover contest

Mike Morse rushed for 161 yards and four touchdowns in leading Fieldcrest to a 47-14 victory over Ridgeview in a Heart of Illinois Conference crossover matchup Friday night.
    The Knights (4-3) kept their playoff hopes alive with the win while the Mustangs (3-4) took a big hit and will need to win out.
    Morse got the Knights on the board in the first quarter with a 10-yard run with 7:45 left in the period. The lead grew to 14-0 when Micah Hurd rumbled to paydirt on a 12-yard run with 10:13 left in the first half.
    Hurd finished the night with 60 yards and two TDs.
    Morse scored his second touchdown on a 1-yard plunge with 4:22 left in the second quarter.
    Trying not to let the game get out of hand, Ridgeview answered when Ryan Benton broke free for a 62-yard touchdown just 17 seconds later. But Hurd added his second TD run, this from just a yard out, for a 27-7 halftime lead.
    Fieldcrest's defense got into the scoring when Jarred Seggerman scooped up a fumble and dashed 19 yards with 6:25 to go in the third period. It was the first score of three over a six-minute period.
    The second was a 5-yard romp from Morse that made it 40-7 with 31.4 seconds left in the quarter.
    Ridgeview came right back when Jared Leake connected with Tate Walcott for a 58-yard touchdown with 15 seconds to go, leaving it 40-14 entering the final frame.
    Morse capped his night with a 2-yard TD plunge.
    Tyler McKay added 110 rushing yards and was 7 of 14 throwing for 111 yards. Derek May had 47 yards on four catches.
    Leake threw for 62 yards on two completions. Walcott had his 58-yard TD reception, Benton led the run game with 95 yards.
