Eagles win three games

In non-conference baseball action between Apollo dates, the NCHS Eagles won three games clubbing Carmi 12-1, West Richland 6-4 and Altamont 22-1 last week.
In the Carmi contest, the Eagles scored in the first four frames to end the game by the 10 run rule. Marc Brandenburg pitched a four hitter using 78 pitches to put away the Bulldogs. The Eagles drilled 12 hits as Peyton Wyatt, Mark Mammoser, A.J. Hyatt and Jared Woodard each had two hits. Woodard clubbed a homer, while Mammoser doubled and Wyatt tripled off Carmi pitching. Kelby McCoy, Connor Walters, and Austin Blair each joined in the fun with singles.
On Thursday, the Eagles stopped West Richland at Boys and Girls Park 6-4 as Zak Snearley picked up the win in relief of Dylan Casey and Marc Brandenburg. Snearley pitched the final two innings as the Eagles broke a 4-4 tie with a pair of sixth innings runs.
Each team collected six hits with Jordan Manuel taking the loss for the Wildcats. Peyton Wyatt led the Eagles with two hits and driving in two. Scott Jansen added an RBI double as did Mark Mammoser. Kelby McCoy ripped a triple and scored once. Jared Woodard had the Eagles' other hit.
On Friday, the Eagles belted Altmont 22-1 behind a 16 hit attack. Zak Snearley and Mark Mammoser combined on a four hitter. Mammoser fanned the side to end the game after five innings.
After spotting the Indians a first inning run, the Eagles poured it on scoring four in the second and adding six tallies in the third, fourth and fifth in the onslaught as nine Eagles hit safely against Brian Suckow and relievers Clayton Ruckman and Jordan McGinnis. Peyton Wyatt led with a 3 for 4 day. Kelby McCoy was 2 for 4, Mark Fehrenbacher was 2 for 3, Alex Frohning was 2 for 4 as was A.J. Hyatt. Zak Snearley was 2 for 2. Scott Jansen was 1 for 3, while Austin Blair was 1 for 1 in the hit parade. The wins improved the Eagles to 8-4 for the campaign.
Eagles swept at Charleston

In Apollo action at Bakers Field, the NCHS Eagles dropped two Apollo games to the Charleston Trojans 9-1 and 8-4.
A seven-\second inning for the Trojans spelled the difference in the open as Marc Brandenburg was knocked out in the frame. Charleston collected nine hits in the contest. Joey Miller held the Eagles to only four hits in the opener as Peyton Wyatt, Kelby McCoy, Jared Woodard and Connor Walters all singled with Woodard driving in the only run.
Zak Snearley pitched the final four innings allowing two runs. In the nightcap, the Eagles scored three times in the first, but Charleston chipped away scoring single runs in the first and second and two more in the third to take a 4-3 edge. However, the Eagles tied it at 4 with a fourth inning tally.
Jared Woodard of the Eagles and Cam Phillips of the Trojans battled into the sixth when Charleston broke the deadlock with a four run sixth. Woodard pitched 5.1 innings allowing 9 hits. Zak Snearley relieved and finished the sixth allowing three hits and two runs.
Cam Phillips got the win for Charleston allowing ten hits and four runs in 101 pitches. Peyton Wyatt, Scott Jansen and Kelby McCoy at the top of the lineup each had two hits. Wyatt scored a run and McCoy drove one Eagle in. McCoy also scored a run, while Jared Woodard had an RBI and also scored. Connor Walters had an RBI single and scored. Alex Frohning added an RBI single. Mark Mammoser also singled in the ten hit attack against Phillips.
The double loss dropped the Eagles to 1-3 in the Apollo.
Hearts sweep Eagles

In Apollo action last Saturday at Boys and Girls Park, Effingham won both ends of a doubleheader 6-2 and 15-5.
The opener was a pitching duel between Chad Green and Marc Brandenburg of the Eagles. In the Eagles' fourth, Connor Walters coached a two run homer to give the Eagles a cushion. However, Effingham tallied six times in their fifth highlighted by a Chad Green three run homer. Green went the distance on the mound allowing five hits with Walters getting two including his homer. Peyton Wyatt, Scott Jansen, and Kelby McCoy each singled.
Marc Brandenburg pitched a complete game allowing eight hits with two walks and five strikeouts in 120 pitches.
In the nightcap, Effingham raced to a 6-0 lead before the Eagles scored four times in the fourth to make it 6-4. However, the Hearts scored three in the fifth and six in the sixth to open a 15-4 gap. A lone Eagle run in the sixth eneded the game by the 10 run rule 15-5. Brad Reedy got the win for Effingham, while Jared Woodard took the loss. Woodard pitched 3.1 innings allowing six hits with two walks and two strikeouts. Mark Mammoser pitched 1.2 innings allowing four hits. Peyton Wyatt finished up allowing two hits as Effingham banged out an even dozen. The Eagles also committed five errors.
Kelby McCoy led the Eagle offense with three hits. Mark Fehrenbacher and Jared Woodard each added two hits. Peyton Wyatt, Alex Frohning, A.J. Hyatt and Mark Mammoser each had a hit. Mammoser belted a solo homer as the Eagles collected 11 hits off Brad Reedy, Cody McCollum and Mitch Wohltman.
The double loss dropped the Eagles to 1-5 in the Apollo, while Effingham is 3-1 in the Apollo.
Lady Eagles sweep Charleston

In a makeup doubleheader last Tuesday at Boys and Girls Park, the NCHS Lady Eagles moved to 3-1 in the Apollo by sweeping Charleston 5-4 in the opener and 7-2 in the nightcap.
Amber Shedelbower got the win in the opener scattering 9 hits. Shedelbower walked three and fanned three. Amy Simpson took the loss for Charleston allowing 8 hits. Amber Shedelbower led the attack with three singles. Kimberlin Wallace pitched in with a double and a single as the big hitter in this contest.
In the nightcap, Amber Shedelbower again won with two innings pitched allowing one hit. Freshman Keidrah Hardiek hurled five innings allowing four hits and two runs.
Kimberlin Wallace led the offense with a three hit game including a double. Hillary Keller and Whitney Koebele each went 2 for 3. Keller had a single and a triple, while Koebele had a single and a double.
Joni Hahn and Mallory Kocher each clubbed triples against Charleston.
Lady Eagles sweep Effingham

The NCHS Lady Eagles traveled to Effingham last Saturday and won both Apollo games to go 5-1 in conference play.
Amber Shedelbower won the opener 10-4 allowing six hits with two walks and eight strikeouts. Kimberlin Wallace, and Whitney Koebele led the attack each going 4 for 5. Wallace had two singles and two doubles. Koebele had a double and three singles. Lauren Gray was 3 for 4 to join in the hit parade.
In the nightcap, the Lady Eagles won 13-7 scoring early and often. A two run first and a six run fourth spearheaded the attack as the Lady Eagles banged out 11 hits.
Kimberlin Wallace again had a big game going 4 for 5. Mallory Kocher drilled two homers. Amber Shedelbower also pitched and won this game. In four innings, Shedelbower allowed five hits with four strikeouts.
Brianna Nail relieved in the fifth and hurled the final three innings to earn the save allowing five hits.
Last Friday, the Lady Eagles continued their torrid pace with a 14-0 whitewashing of Neoga behind Keidrah Hardiek.
The big hitters in this contest were Kimberlin Wallace who went 3 for 3. Whitney Koebele was 2 for 3 and Keidrah Hardiek helped herself going 2 for 2.
After home games with St. Anthony and Altamont, the Lady Eagles return to Apollo action this Saturday hosting Salem at 11:00 a.m.
Tennis Eagles over Effingham

The NCHS Eagles tennis team defeated Fairfield 6-3 in a recent match. The Eagles won five of the six singles matches to help seal the win.
#2 Jerry Howze won over Andrew Simpson 6-4, 4-6, 10-7. #3 Logan Andrews was a winner over Quade Harvey 6-3, 6-3. #4 Jesse Renfroe defeated Caleb Koker 6-1, 6-1. #5 Dakota Birch won 6-0, 6-1 over Kelby Fenton. #6 Matt Shryock defeated Don Bielecki 6-2, 6-2. #1 Caleb Will fell to Jeff Vaughan 2-6, 2-6.
In doubles, Caleb Will and Jerry Howze fell to Jeff Vaughan and Andrew Simpson 1-6, 0-6. However, Logan Andrews and Dakota Birch won over Quade Harvey and Caleb Koker 6-1, 6-2.
Brad Kilgore and Matthias Ochs fell to Kelby Fenton and Don Bielecki 1-6, 2-6.
Olney blanks tennis team

The Olney Tigers threw a shutout in Apollo tennis action last Tuesday 5-0. Olney won all three singles matches and both doubles to win.
In singles play #1 Caleb Will fell to Jerrad Stoll 1-6, 1-6. #2 Jerry Howze lost 0-6, 0-6 to Dylan Prosser. #3 Logan Andrews dropped a 0-6, 3-6 match to Austin Zwilling.
In doubles, Jesse Renfroe and Dakota Birch dropped a 0-6, 0-6 match to Kyle Shipman and Taylor Powless. Eric LeMay and Brad Kilgore also fell to Aaron Kapper and Blayd Beck 0-6, 0-6.
In exhibition play Matthias Ochs lost 2-6, 1-6 to Kerry Nott. However, Matt Shryock had the only victory of the day defeating Colon Fuson 6-3, 6-0.
