The second annual Great Central U.S. ShakeOut is less than a week away. The ShakeOut is scheduled for February 7 at 10:15 CST. If you haven't registered your family, friends, organizations, and community you can still do that at www.shakeout.org/centralus/register.
In 2011, the first annual Central U.S. ShakeOut involved more than three million registered participants at nearly 10,000 drill locations. In January of this year, the ShakeOut was honored by FEMA and the White House as a recipient of the FEMA 2011 Individual and Community Preparedness Award for "Outstanding Exercise, Drill, or Event".
Besides registration, the site offers how to participate, drill manuals and earthquake scenarios that will help you lead a ShakeOut Drill. You will learn the basic Drop, Cover and Hold On drill to more comprehensive exercise of the disaster drill.
The Newton Press-Mentor, will again this year, participate in the Great Central U.S. ShakeOut!
