Junior high basketball
Pontiac came away with a split of games with Normal Metcalf in junior high girls' basketball on Tuesday.
The eighth grade Warriors held off Metcalf for a 25-23 victory. PJHS was outscored 6-2 in the fourth quarter after leading 23-17 at the start of the frame. Pontiac took an 11-9 lead after the first quarter and was ahead by a 19-11 count at the break.
Makayla Metz hit for 9 points in leading the Pontiac (4-3) offense. Riley Foster collected 7 points and 5 rebounds and Paityn Richardson contributed 4 points and 10 boards. Mackenzie Coates had 3 points and Makayla Niles chipped in 2 markers. Bailee Myers snared 7 caroms.
The seventh grade Warriors fell 17-14 in a close contest from start to finish. Metcalf led 3-2 after one period and was up 7-6 at the half before extending the lead to 13-8 by the end of the third quarter.
Haylie Lindley paced Pontiac (4-3) with 6 points and 4 rebounds. Jayonnah Einhaus had 4 points and Makyah Hartfield checked in with 2 points and 3 baords. Reese Bohm also had 2 points.
The fifth grade Warriors lost 17-12 in a contest with Corpus Christi. Trinity Miller had 7 points for Pontiac, Keely Hoffmeyer added 4 points and Hannah Foster had 1 point.
