Warriors win league battle
Woodland managed just nine points in the second half, but by that time it didn’t matter because the Warriors exploded for 24 in the first period en route to a 46-19 win over Low Point-Washburn in a Tri-County Conference boys’ basketball game Friday night.
Collin Hjerpe, Kyle Voytko and Tyler Jenkins combined for 20 points in the first quarter alone, which proved to be more than the Wildcats would get all night, as the Warriors took a 24-2 lead.
WHS added 13 points in the second period while holding their guests to just two more in taking a 37-4 lead into the break. By that time, it didn’t matter that the Warriors managed six points in the third and three points in the fourth in an effort not to run up the score.
Christian Miller grabbed 6 rebounds and tied Jenkins for team-high in scoring with 9 points. Voytko added 8 points while Hjerpe scored 7 and Sean Bundy added 6. Tommy Kress finished with 3 points and Nate Carby and Brad Simpson each had 2 points.
