Norma Evelyn (Johnson) Clark, 90, of Newton, Illinois, passed away at 12:49 a.m., Saturday, December 30, 2017, at HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham, Illinois.
Funeral services celebrating Norma’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, January 4, 2018, at the First Baptist Church in Newton, Illinois, with Stephen Willis officiating. Burial will be in the Trexler Cemetery in rural Newton, Illinois. Visitation will be held 9:00-11:00 a.m., Thursday, January 4, 2018, at the church. In loving memory of Norma, memorials may be made to the Jasper Post #20 for Veteran’s Gifts. Arrangements are under the care of the Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, Illinois. Norma was born on June 11, 1927, in Jasper County, Illinois, the daughter of Neal Cass and Esther (Clagg) Johnson. Norma married Earl L Clark on March 11, 1948 in Henderson, Kentucky and to this union two daughters were born Janet Lynn and Mary Suzanne.
Norma was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, she was a caregiver to many and a friend to all. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Newton, Illinois, Jasper Post #20 American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and Jasper County Home Extension. Norma enjoyed gardening, attending auctions and spending time with family and friends.
Norma is survived by daughters, Janet (Herman) Kistner of Wendelin and Suzanne Clark-Thornton of Newton; grandchildren, Cindy (Kent) Zumbahlen of Dieterich, Lisa (Jeff) Ochs of West Liberty, Kimberly (Brad) Ochs of Newton, Chad (Annette) Kistner of Newton, Jamee (Hank) Baltzell of Newton, and Ryan (Sarah) Higginbotham of Olney; great-grandchildren, Nathan (Whitney) Zumbahlen; Kylie (Nathan) Garbe; Makenzie Kistner; Miranda Ochs; Jenna Ochs; Ashtyn Ochs; Avery Ochs; Kaitlyn Ochs; Grant Ochs; Alayna Ochs; Eli Ochs; Natalie Kistner; Nora Kistner; Dylan Kistner; Collin Kistner; Emily Baltzell; Hayden Baltzell; Jereme Higginbotham and Rylee Higginbotham; great, great-grandchildren, Austin Zumbahlen; Caroline Zumbahlen; Clara Zumbahlen; Ryerson Zumbahlen; brother, Burl (Mary) Johnson of Newton; sisters, Geraldine (Owen “Scotty”) Clark of Newton.
Norma was preceded in death by her parents, grandson, Chris Kistner, 3 brothers Gene Johnson, Donald Johnson and Dean Johnson, 2 sisters Beverly Sparks and Mary Marshall and an infant great grandchild.
