Carl A. Short, 89, of Newton, Illinois, passed away at 9:30 a.m., Monday, July 2, 2018, at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Thursday, July 5, 2018, at the Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, Illinois, with Bro. Larry Matson officiating. Burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Newton, Illinois, with full military rites. Visitation will be held 2 hours before the service. Carl was born on February 5, 1929, in Falmouth, Illinois, the son of Alva and Golda (Staley) Short. He married Louise Wilkens on November 24, 1949, in rural Wheeler, Illinois. Carl served his country in the United States Army during the Korean conflict. Carl was a lineman for Norris Electric Coop in Newton for over 40 years. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Newton, Illinois. Carl enjoyed camping and woodworking.

Carl is survived by his wife of 68 years, Louise Short of Newton; children, Carla (Jack) Carlson of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Thomas (Sheila) Short of Lawrenceville, Larry (Beth) Short of Newton, and Tammy (Bruce) Tucker of Heyworth; grandchildren, Erik Carlson, Brandon (Amy) Short, Tonya Short, Craig (Jennifer) Short, Andrew (Katrina) Short, Donald Short, Bradley (Jennifer) Short, Jeffrey Short, Edward Short, Caroline Short, Kate (Jordan) Reiners and Kristen Tucker; nine great-grandchildren; sisters, Maxine Wooden of Peoria and Norma Jean Mason of New Albany, Indiana.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Bernice Field and Clella French.
