Kay was born on August 29, 1939, to Noble and Leona Grissom in Casey, IL. Kay married the love of her life, Jim Hunsaker on August 2, 1957 and they were married for 61 blissful years. A devoted and loving mother and grandmother, Kay loved nothing more than being with her family.
She never missed a single sporting event or activity that her grandchildren were in; she truly was their biggest fan. Over the years Kay collected Longaberger baskets and loved decorating and sewing. For many years, Jim and Kay toured the country on their motorcycle with friends and met many wonderful people. She enjoyed cooking holiday meals, birthday celebrations and family get-togethers; any chance to spend time with her family was important to her.
Kay had an unwavering faith in God. Throughout her entire life she trusted God’s timing and plan and loved him with all of her heart. She touched many lives by living out her faith. She treated everyone she met with unconditional love and kindness and was never scared or ashamed to proclaim that “God is good!” When Kay entered Heaven's gates no doubt the Lord welcomed her with open arms and said, “Well done good and faithful servant.”A Bible passage that Kay cherished teaches us this: “Don’t worry about anything; instead pray about everything; tell God your needs and don’t forget to thank him for his answers. Fix your thoughts on what is true and good and right. Think about things that are pure and lovely, and dwell on the fine, good things in others. Think about all you can praise God for and be glad about.” Philippians 4:6-8. Kay lived by these words. Through her unconditional love for Christ and her family and friends, Kay continued to bless those around her until her final days and she will continue to bless them as she watches over them from heaven.
God blessed Kay with a son, Jim (Melissa) Hunsaker, Jr. of Hidalgo, IL, grandchildren Jordan Leigh and Caleb Lee (deceased), Ashley Kaytlin (Doug) Jansen of Effingham, IL, Austin Lee and Avery Kyle Hunsaker of Hidalgo, IL; great-grandchildren, Emery Kayt, August Samuel and Bennett Lee Jansen. Siblings, Tommy Grissom of Cape Coral, FL , June McCullough of Casey, IL, Richard Grissom of Charleston, IL, Shirley Field of Minooka, IL, Elizabeth Novak of Festus, MO and Evelyn Roan of Hidalgo, IL.
Kay was preceded in death by her parents, twin brother Maurice Ray, infant sister Etta May, sisters Dorothy Jeanne Ring and Juanita McBride and grandchildren Jordan and Caleb Hunsaker.
Kay’s family and friends are thankful for every opportunity they had to tell her how much they loved her and Kay’s final words were, “I love you too”.
