Rodney Paul Laugel, 75, of Mason City, passed away at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, IL at 9:20 a.m. on Tuesday, February 5, 2019.

A memorial service will be held at Hurley Funeral Home in Mason City at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 9, 2019 with visitation for two hours prior to the services. A private family burial will follow the services. Butch Tull will officiate. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John’s Hospital. Mr. Laugel was born January 13, 1944, in Newton, IL, to Paul and Edna (Leffler) Laugel. He married Patricia Harris in Mason City on November 19, 2017. Mr. Laugel attended Mason City High School. In his younger years, he was an avid dirt bike rider. He worked for Caterpillar Inc. for many years, retiring on November 1, 1993. In retirement he spent most of his time tinkering on classic cars. His interest in cars led to memberships in several classic car clubs. He owned and operated The Chestnut St. Grill from 1991 until 2000. For the past 40 years, almost every morning he could be found at the restaurant drinking coffee and solving the world’s problems with his friends.

Mr. Laugel is survived by his wife, Patricia, of Mason City; daughter, Melinda Tucker of Mason City; son, Tim (Diane) Laugel of Bloomington; two step-sons, Russell (Angela) Harris and James (Carson) Harris, both of Mason City; six grandchildren; six step-grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.
