There are few places in Jasper County where you can enjoy a full-service prime rib dinner. For the third year running, Newton Central Christian Church will make that happen, with the annual Prime Rib Dinner. Designed to help raise funds for Jasper County Cancer Support, Inc., the dinner is scheduled for Saturday, March 9 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Once again, tickets are $20 per person and include a half pound prime rib, side salad, baked potato, drinks and dessert.
The Prime Rib Dinner will take place at Newton Central Christian Church, 208 S. Jackson St., located behind Farley Insurance and Rauch’s Jewelry on the south side of the square. Along with several Central Christian Church members, JCCS board members and volunteers, will also be assisting to serve attendees. For those planning to eat before going out for the night, ample parking is available across from the church in the County Building parking lot. Carry-out orders will also be available by calling (618) 783-3526.
Tickets are on sale now at Dr. Jeanine Fell’s Dental Office, Newton Central Christian Church, Casey’s General Store and any of the JCCS Board Members. Purchase yours now to ensure that you don’t miss this great meal.
Each year, JCCS provides assistance in the form of gift cards for groceries and fuel to Jasper County residents who are receiving chemotherapy, radiation or recurring follow-up treatments on a monthly basis. JCCS is able to provide this support solely through sponsorships, donations and fundraisers. In 2018, $21,000.00 was distributed to cancer patients in need in the form of gift cards from Casey’s General Store, Marathon One Stop Shoppe, Martin’s IGA and Circle K.
Jasper County Cancer Support, Inc. began in 2012 with the specific purpose of helping individuals in our community who are fighting cancer. This group is unique, in that all of the funds stay within Jasper County. While the organization understands that cancer survivors have follow-up appointments with their oncologists, the JCCS mission is to provide support to those who are currently undergoing active treatment.
Cancer patients and survivors are encouraged to attend monthly Jasper County Cancer Support meetings the second Tuesday of each month at 5:00 p.m. at the Jasper County Health Department. Anyone interested in participating on the Board of Directors is welcome to attend Board meetings on the second Thursday of the month at 4:30 p.m. at Dr. Jeanine Fell’s Office located at 605 S. Van Buren St. in Newton.
