Edna Lucille Whitehurst, 90, of Wheeler passed away Tuesday, June 11, 2019 at her home.
Funeral services celebrating Edna’s life will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, June 14, 2019 at the Crain Funeral Home, Newton. Visitation will be from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m., Thursday, June 13, 2019 at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery, Newton, Illinois. Edna was born on March 5, 1929 in Montrose, Illinois the daughter of Mina (Grey) Kirk. On August 21, 1949, Edna married Homer James Whitehurst. He preceded her in death on January 3, 1984. In addition to being a wife and mother, Edna worked for Fedders Corporation in Effingham until her retirement. Edna was lifelong member of the Fairview Christian Church. She enjoyed gardening, caring for the hummingbirds, and spending time with her family.
Edna will be loved and remembered by her children, Connie (Rahel) Wagy of Newton, Daniel Whitehurst of St. Louis, Stanley (Judy) Whitehurst of Newton and daughter-in-law, Debbie Whitehurst of Wheeler; nine grandchildren, Scott (Brenda) Wagy, Amy Huschle, Sarah (Nick) Hemrich, Carrie (Eric) Carr, Lindsey Whitehurst, Levi Whitehurst, Jessie (Chet) Bogdajewicz, Eber Whitehurst, and Kylee Whitehurst; fifteen great-grandchildren and sister-in-law, Mary Shull of Hidalgo.
She was preceded in death by her mother, husband Homer James, son Neil Whitehurst, sisters Eva James and Martha Cranford and brother Burrel Shull.
