LeRoy Edward Schackmann, age 65, of Newton, Illinois, went to be with the Lord at 10:30 AM - Sunday, October 20, 2019, at his home, surrounded by family.
A eulogy celebrating LeRoy’s life will be read at 10:15 AM – Thursday, October 24, 2019, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, in Newton, Illinois. Mass of Christian Burial will follow with Father Dean Probst, celebrating mass. Burial will be in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Newton, Illinois. Visitation will be held 4:00-7:00 PM – Wednesday, October 23, 2019, at the church. In loving memory of LeRoy, memorials may be given to St. Thomas School or HSHS St. Anthony Hospice. LeRoy was born on January 4, 1954, in Olney, Illinois, one of eleven children of Joseph and Eunice (Ochs) Schackmann. He married Christine “Christy” (Holkenbrink) on October 6, 1979, at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Effingham, Illinois. He graduated from Newton Community High School in 1972. LeRoy was a hard worker his entire life and he never complained. LeRoy retired from Sherwin Williams in June 2018.
LeRoy was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church.
LeRoy enjoyed Newton Eagle football, canoeing down the Embarrass River, jeep rides, and playing with grandkids. He is known for his big smile, positive attitude, and always lending a helping hand. He valued his family and did everything he could for them; it made him happy and content to have them near. He was a compassionate and caring husband, father, and grandpa. He exemplified his motto “Always Stay Humble and Kind”.

Children - Travis (Chelsey) Schackmann of Hazel Dell, Illinois; Jessica (Adam) Beals of Jewett, Illinois and Andrea (Brett) Miller of Toledo, Illinois.
