During their last game of the regular season, the Newton Eagles defeated Neoga, 58-48, last Friday.

Playing at Neoga on Feb. 21, the Newton Boys sunk six 3-pointers and 10 free throws to keep ahead of the Indians. Newton led at halftime, 27-20.

Neoga rallied after the half by outscoring Newton, 16 to 11. The Indians were within striking distance at the end of the third quarter with the score nearly knotted, 38 to 36. In the fourth quarter, the Eagles came back by racking up 20 points to pull ahead for good. Neoga only managed to score 12 points in the final period.

Kyle Schafer topped Newton in scoring with 17 points, including a trio of 3-pointers. Jarrett Tharp had 13 points and Evan Schafer pumped in 11. Aaron Einhorn had 7 points and went 4 for 4 from the free throw line – as a team, Newton scored on 10 of 16 from the charity stripe. Parker Eaton and Justin Zumbahlen each scored 4 points.

The Eagles finished their regular season with 18 wins and 13 losses. They started postseason play Monday against Sullivan in the Paris Regional.
