Three Newton Lady Eagles received Little Illini Conference honors for their play throughout during the 2019-20 basketball season.

Six-foot senior Brooke Jansen was named to the first team of the Little Illini All-Conference team. Jansen’s play at forward not only helped add points to the scoreboard, but she was a determined rebounder and defender. There were games when she dominated the boards.

Senior guard Allison Harris was named to the second team All LIC Conference. Harris was a fine ball handler and could put the ball in from under the basket or past the arc. She also produced many steals – driving some opposing players wacky at times -- and assists during the season.

Whitney Zumbahlen received All LIC honorable mention. The junior could pump in points and never hesitated to jump in during battles under the basket. Her talents will add to the core of talent next year for the Lady Eagles.

Also deserving recognition for their play last season are seniors Eliza Bierman, Claire Carr and Renae Russell. Each of them contributed points, rebounds, steals and assists throughout the season.

It was a shame the team’s postseason play ended too soon, but all the Lady Eagles can be congratulated on a 20-win season that provided excitement and plenty to cheer about.
